EYFS Teacher – Two-Term Contract | East Sussex | January to July 2027

Sussex Teachers is working in partnership with a lovely, supportive primary school in East Sussex to recruit an EYFS Teacher for a two-term contract from January 2027 until July 2027.

The school is looking for an experienced teacher who can take responsibility for its small Reception class through the Spring and Summer terms. With just 14 pupils and a full-time INA working alongside you, this is an opportunity to concentrate on what EYFS teaching is supposed to be about: knowing your children, creating an excellent learning environment and helping them make genuine progress. The school is currently within its Ofsted inspection window, so they need someone confident, organised and capable of maintaining the strong standards already in place.

The Reception class

This isn't a vacancy where you'll arrive in January and spend the first six weeks firefighting.

The current EYFS provision is in a strong position:

• 14 children in the Reception class
• 85% of pupils currently achieving Good Level of Development (GLD)
• Full-time Individual Needs Assistant (INA) in the classroom
• Supportive colleagues and school leadership
• Established routines and expectations
• A welcoming primary school environment

Your job is to take what's working, build on it and give the children an excellent second half of their Reception year.

What you'll be doing:

You'll take full responsibility for the Reception class from January through to the end of the academic year.

That means planning and delivering engaging lessons and continuous provision in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), assessing children's progress, maintaining accurate records and creating an environment where children feel secure, curious and ready to learn.

You'll work closely with your full-time INA and the wider school team, support children with differing needs and ensure that the strong levels of progress already being achieved continue throughout the Spring and Summer terms.

The school will be in it's Ofsted window, so you'll need to be comfortable demonstrating consistently strong EYFS practice if the call comes.

Who we're looking for:

 

This role needs someone who knows Reception.

You'll need:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• At least one year's teaching experience
• Recent experience teaching in EYFS 
• A strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework
• Experience of EYFS assessment and Good Level of Development
• Confident classroom and behaviour management
• A good understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice
• The ability to work effectively with teaching assistants and support staff
• Reliability and commitment for the full two-term contract

This isn't really a role for somebody looking to find out whether EYFS is for them. It's for a teacher who already understands what good Reception practice looks like and would enjoy taking a small, well-supported class through to July.
